The Faculty of Life Sciences, Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, invites applications for a Full Professorship for ‘Biosystems Engineering’ (W3) starting 1 April 2025.

Full Professorship for ‘Biosystems Engineering’ (W3)

Working field:

We are looking for an excellent and ambitious researcher to fill the core professorship "Biosystems Engineering" at the Thaer Institute. Innovative aspects of the technical control and use of biological systems for the sustaina-ble and quality-oriented production of plant-based agricultural products will be addressed in research and teaching.

The successful candidate is expected to deploy mathematical-physical modelling and artificial intelligence to better understand complex phenomena such as plant growth and quality formation processes in agricultural systems and to steer them towards improved sustainability. In particular, this involves the interpretation of sensory data and its use in control technology (controlled-environment agriculture). Bio-systemic control and regulation processes in organisms and production systems and their technical control in terms of process control are also relevant.

Requirements:

The internationally recognized researcher has published regularly in relevant international journals and successfully attracted and completed competitive research grants and there-by proven an ability to conduct problem-oriented and highly innovative research through.

Experience in the supervision of doctoral researchers, in interdisciplinary cooperation with-in and outside the Life Sciences and in knowledge transfer with agricultural practitioners are desirable.

The successful candidate has didactic skills and teaching experience, ideally in the areas of agricultural or horticultural engineering. Willingness to teach in English and German (possibly after a period of time to acquire sufficient language skills) and to engaged participation in university self-governance are required.
